NEW, COMING 2010!
IceClear® HD
HEAVY DUTY, EXTENDED LIFE, PRE-DILUTED, Non-Nitrite Glycerin Antifreeze
DESCRIPTION
IceClear® HD is a patented biobased, ready-to-use, non-glycol anti-freeze / heat transfer fluid which combines highly refined glycerin and the industry leading corrosion inhibitor package to create the only non-glycol anti-freeze of its kind in the world!
PERFORMANCE
IceClear® HD meets the requirements of ASTM 3306 and ASTM 6210 (type III). Our state-of-the-art, non-nitrated corrosion package, provides outstanding extended protection against liner pitting and corrosion of steel, copper, brass, solder, cast aluminum, and cast iron. IceClear HD lubricates pumps and valves, provides excellent scaling resistance, is fully compatible with gaskets, seals, elastomers and other non-metallic pump and engine parts, offers a freeze point of -31° F, burst protection to -50° F and will not support bacterial growth. IceClear® HD provides extended life up to a 750,000 mile change interval (9375 hours) in properly maintained engine systems and up to 5 years in static systems or low temperature systems (<150º F).
SAFETY/ENVIRONMENT
IceClear® HD is the leader in quality, safety and environmental concerns. IceClear HD is biobased, readily biodegradable, non-toxic, non-hazardous and has a neutral pH. IceClear® HD is considered “GRAS”, (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA (Federal Food and Drug Administration), combining highly refined and/or food-grade glycerin and an industry proven premier corrosion inhibitor package which does not include old technology such as nitrites, molybdates or phosphates.
APPLICATIONS
Designed for industrial and environmentally sensitive anti-freeze, heat transfer and secondary refrigerant applications, IceClear® HD can be used in virtually all gasoline, diesel and natural gas engines and other applications such as:
• Closed Loop Systems
• Solar Systems
• Floor Heating Systems
• HVAC
• Directional Drilling Fluid
• Hydrostatic/Pressure Testing
• Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems
FLUID TESTING
IceClear® HD is a glycerin based product. Freeze point range can quickly be determined by a tester available from Orison or more accurately by a refractometer (Brix). Recommended drain and recharge with IceClear® HD if Brix value is less than 45.0 as this indicates the product has been diluted. A chart showing Brix readings and freeze point is also available from Orison. Do not use glycol testers to determine freeze point protection.
WHAT ABOUT MIXING FLUIDS
Although no negative effects are expected, mixing anti-freeze/coolants is not recommended due to varying freeze point depressants
and corrosion inhibitor technologies which leads to difficulties determining actual freeze point protection and corrosion inhibition
properties.
OUTSTANDING BENEFITS AND FEATURES:
- Biobased
- Non-Toxic
- Neutral pH
- No Nitrites
- Non-Glycol
- Non-Hazardous
- Non-Flammable
- Lower BOD/COD
- Lower Freeze Point
The chart below is supplied as a guide for diagnostic / maintenance purposes. The values are calculated values and are only approximations. IceClear® HD is ready-to-use and not to be diluted as the result would weaken the corrosion inhibitor package. Custom blending is available to meet specific physical properties such as freeze point and/or heat transfer capabilities.
| IceClear HD % (weight) | Brix Value (Refractometer) | Freeze Point F/C | Boiling Point F/C | Specific Heat @35F | ViscositycSt @68F (20C) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 46.5 | -31/-35 | 228/109 | .74 | 10.8 |
| 90 | 42.1 | -17/-27 | 225/107 | .77 | 7.9 |
| 80 | 37.5 | -6/-21 | 222/106 | .81 | 5.5 |
| 70 | 33.1 | 2/-17 | 219/104 | .83 | 4.1 |
| 60 | 28.7 | 9/-13 | 218/103.5 | .85 | 3.2 |

Custom blending is available to meet specific physical properties such as freeze point and/or heat transfer capabilities.
MAINTENANCE DIRECTIONS
1. Use straight, DO NOT DILUTE.
2. Use only IceClear® HD in the system. Do not mix with other anti-freeze/heat transfer fluids or chemicals.
3. Use only chemical free filters.
4. Check fluid and filters on regular maintenance schedule, recommended every 20,000 miles and/or at least 2 times per year. Top off with only undiluted IceClear® HD if system is low. Recommended drain and recharge with IceClear® HD if Brix value is less than 45.0 as this indicates the product has been diluted.
5. Scheduled IceClear® HD lab analysis is available through Orison.
ASTM 6210 specification covers the requirements for fully formulated coolants for cooling systems of Heavy Duty Engines and includes ASTM 3306 as a pre-requisite. ASTM 3306 specification covers the requirements for Automobile and Light-Duty Service.
